Pride Festival 2000

The Syracuse Pride Committee is proud to announce plans for this year’s GLBT Pride Celebration to be held on Saturday, June 16, 2001.  The Syracuse Pride Committee, has spent the winter months preparing for our largest annual community gathering, and as spring unfolds, most of the hard work of producing our city’s pride event begins.  This year’s celebration: Got Pride 2001, promises to be another wonderful day in our community’s history, as we come together once again to affirm our pride and rejoice in our diversity.

The schedule of events for Got Pride 2001 builds on the parade/festival format that we had started a few years ago.  The annual Pride Parade is the starting point of the entire celebration, followed immediately by a large outdoor festival in Everson Park.  Then on to the Dance Under the Stars at the Everson Park. It was a great success last year.

Here's a sample of the exciting plans for each of these events:

The Pride Parade

The Pride Parade will begin at 4PM from the Trolley parking lot at Clinton and Gifford streets [Map].  The start time for this year’s parade is a little later than in previous years, mainly to provide members of our community the opportunity to attend the annual Juneteenth celebration that is held on the same day.  Last year’s parade was one of the largest, included many diverse community groups, a couple of marching bands, and a flurry of rainbow colors. We will again be having a Float Competition this year and our Judges are going to be Kate O'Connell of the Common Council and Ted & Amy of 93Q. Let's see what kind of creative people we have here in Syracuse (or other surrounding areas) to show that we've "GOT PRIDE!".

Help us make this new addition a success by entering your float in the competition.  Individuals, businesses and community organizations are invited to enter a float in this year’s parade.  Prizes will be awarded for the three best floats in the parade.  Prizes are first place $75.00, second place $50.00, and third place $25.00.  The overall theme for the parade and festival is: GOT PRIDE!, and entries are encouraged to be original, creative or simply outrageous. For more information on the float competition, contact Larry Fuller at (315) 478.3230 or Bernie McCarthy at (315) 471.0714.
The Parade will follow the great painted lavender line as it winds its way through the streets of downtown to the festival site.

The Pride Festival

The first large scale outdoor Pride Festival started two years ago by a very small, but dedicated committee that wanted to provide a fun and enjoyable venue at the end of the Pride Parade.  Last year’s festival, attended by over 2,000 people, was a large success and we will again be gathering on the beautiful grounds of the Everson Museum directly following the Pride Parade [Map].  Circling the reflecting pool will be the large festival tent, food vending carts, a beer tent and the main stage. Again this year

we will have live entertainment, food and drink, community organization information tables, shopping, official GOT PRIDE! 2001 merchandise, a postal cancellation station, the Big Pride Prize raffle and much more. The festival is slated to run from the end of the Pride Parade into the evening.

The Pride Dance

The pride celebration will close with a large outdoor dance, at the Everson Museum site.  As the sun goes down, the lights will come up and Everson Park will begin to move and groove with dancing and celebrating.  The music spun by a local DJ will end around 11:00PM.
